US/Chennai-based startup Headstream Technologies' edtech platform Profential is getting ready for an ambitious expansion plan: the company will be partnering with over 600 institutions in the next 18 months. The digital credentialing solution allows schools and colleges to recognise the academic and extracurricular achievements of their students using secure digital tokens.
Growing Global Footprint in Education
Currently, Edtech platform Profential has partnerships with leading Indian institutions such as Panimalar Engineering College, DG Vaishnav College's School of Management, and Jaya College of Engineering and Technology. In the U.S., it has tie-ups with the University of Michigan and 16 K–12 school districts, extending its reach across both higher education and school-level ecosystems.
Going Beyond Traditional Certificate Repositories
Co-founder Pramod Damodaran explained that with Edtech platform Profential, the idea is to move beyond traditional repositories like DigiLocker. “We want to create an ecosystem where students’ achievements — not just degrees and mark sheets — are digitally documented, verified, and showcased to recruiters,” he said.
How Profential's Digital Credentialing Works
Profential's approach is collaborative, with the startup's team working in conjunction with academic institutions to identify potential credentials based on college calendars-from technical symposiums and sports events to leadership programs and volunteering initiatives. Once pre-defined credentials are set up, authorized faculty can issue them to students, who then collect the digital badges in a personal wallet.
Verified Achievements for Recruiters
The platform comes with an integrated resume builder that allows students to compile their verified credentials and share them with employers using QR codes. This ensures recruiters can directly verify the validity of listed achievements, giving the students an edge over the rest in job placements.
A Student-Centric Innovation in EdTech
According to Damodaran, Edtech platform Profential is unique in the sense that it is student-centric, unlike most corporate learning tools. “While several companies use similar wallets for employee training, we have designed Profential exclusively for students — from K–12 to higher education — to document and display their lifelong learning journey,” he said.
Early-Mover Advantage in India's Digital Education Space
With rapid digitization transforming the education sector in India, Damodaran feels the timing couldn't be better. "Since few Indian players operate in this niche, we have a strong early-mover advantage," he noted.
With Edtech platform Profential fast expanding its footprint, it redefines how achievements are recognized and shared — creating a future where every skill, activity, and effort can be digitally verified and valued.
